Basic knowledge about I.C.Engine:

[1]   What is I.C. engine?

Answer:The engine in which combustion of fuel takes place inside the engine cylinder are called as Internal combustion engine (I.C.Engine).

[2] What are the operations cycle and sequence in I.C.engine?

Answer: The following sequence of operations in a cycle:

a.Suction Stroke

b.Compression Stroke

c.Expansion Stroke

d.Exhaust Stroke.

[3] Difference between two stroke and four stroke cycle engine.

Answer: In two stroke engine,the working cycle is completed in two strokes of the piston or one revolution of the crankshaft.

In a four stroke engine,the working cycle is completed in four strokes of the piston or two revolution of the crankshaft.

6 WHAT IS MEAN BY BORE IN IC ENGINE?
ANS.Bore:  The  inside  diameter  of  the  cylinder  is  called bore

7.What is mean stroke in IC engine.
Ans.Stroke:  The  linear  distance  along  the  cylinder  axis  between  two  limiting  position  s  is called stroke.

8.What is mean by top dead center in IC engine?
Ans.Top  Dead  Center  (  T.D.C.)  : the  top  most  position  of  the  piston  towards  cover  end  side of  the  cylinder  is  called  T.D.C. 

9.what is mean by Bottom dead center or B.D.C?
 Ans.Bottom  dead  Center  (  B.D.C.)  :  The  lowest  position of  the  piston  towards  the  crank end side  of  the  cylinder  is  called  B.D.C.

10.What is mean by Clearance Volume in IC ENGINE?
ANS.Clearance  Volume  :  The  volume  contained  in  the  cylinder  above  the  top  of  the  piston  , when the  piston  is  at  top dead center  ,  is  called  the  clearance  volume.

11.WHAT IS MEAN BY SWEPT VOLUME IN IC ENGINE?
ANS.  Volume:  The  volume  swept  through  by  the  piston  in  moving  between  T.D.C.  and B.D.C,  is  called swept  volume  or  piston  displacement. Compression Ratio:  It  is  the  ratio of  Total cylinder  volume  to clearance  volume .
